Asked Questions about Gottstein
Fellowships and Awards
When
can I apply and when do applications for Fellowships and Awards
close?
Applications are called for in July each year, and close on a
date specified each year in mid-September.
When
can I take up my Fellowship or Award and for how long?
Fellowships and Awards are taken up during the year following
the close of applications, and are usually for a period of 3 to
6 weeks. Longer periods can be undertaken, but normally with the
additional backing of the Fellow's employer.
Can
I put in a late application?
Late applications are not encouraged, although in certain circumstances
the Trust can accommodate them.
Can
I use my Fellowship or Award to help me gain a tertiary education
qualification?
Fellowships and Awards are given to those currently employed
in the Australian forest industries or their associated institutes
and are not available to full time students.
Can
I apply from overseas?
As above, Fellowships and Awards are given to those currently
employed in the Australian forest industries, and are thus not available
to overseas applicants.
How
much are Awards and Fellowships worth?
There is no specific amount of money provided with a Fellowship
or Award, however the amount given will cover airfares, a living
allowance and any course or conference fees approved. Fellowships
will normally be valued at less than $10,000, while Skill Advancement
Awards would usually be for $2,000-4,000 Australian Dollars.
Will
you tell me where to go and what to do in order to complete my Fellowship
or Award program?
Where you go and what you do is your responsibility - the project
and itinerary must be completed on the application form prior to
submission. The Trustees may suggest modifications to your proposal
prior to approval.
Am
I too old or too young to apply?
There is no age limit for the Gottstein Fellowships and Awards,
although they are generally more suited to applicants in the earlier
stages of their careers.
Do
I need a firm commitment from people I wish to visit?
Not on initial application, but that would be required if you
were successful.
