Wood
Science Courses
Forest
products are much more efficient users of energy than other materials
and there is now a decreasing availability of products from some
regions and changes in quality from others. A greater understanding
of the user's final requirements is needed to adjust to this situation.
The demand could be for high quality appearance grade products or
for uniform quality and lower costs obtained through more efficient
conversion, processing and usage of other products.
A
sound knowledge is needed to cope with the changing quality of raw
materials and to satisfy stringent market demands. To achieve this,
senior management needs to be aware of the broader, basic aspects
of wood science and technology, and the new techniques being introduced.
This Gottstein Trust Wood Science Course of 5 days duration has
been planned to provide this information. The course will assist
the decision makers in the industry to gain greater efficiency in
their operations.
Objectives
To provide
an understanding of wood and the origin of the properties which
affect its processing and end-use. To give an insight into the potential
for development of new products and to provide an appreciation of
environment issues and international strategic trends in the forest
products industries.
Date
and Venue
The next Wood Science Course will take place 16-20 February 2009
in Melbourne, at CSIRO Materials Science and Engineering, Clayton,
and the University of Melbourne, Parkville.
Who
Should Attend
Senior and potential managers as well as consultants within the
forest industry. The course will be of particular relevance to those
who may have recently joined the industry.
Why
